American Friends Service Committee hires Moore

PHILADELPHIA: The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) named Alexis Moore as its associate director of external affairs and media director, effective March 2. Moore, the former director of communications for the Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, reports to Mark Graham, director of external affairs for the Philadelphia-based Quaker organization. She replaced Jenny Shields, who left AFSC more than a year ago.

SS&K add two VPs in digital sphere

NEW YORK: SS&K made two recent hires in an effort to enhance its digital and social media practice, including Mike Moffo, the former national director of special projects on the Obama presidential campaign. Moffo will work as VP and strategic consultant for the firm. Also hired was Jennifer Steele as VP and director of creative production and operations. She was previously SVP and director of digital services as Renegade.

OTSP adds Fazzina

LOS ANGELES: Leigh Fazzina has joined broadcast and new media PR firm On the Scene Productions as VP of business development. Fazzina, who comes with 15 years of healthcare PR and digital PR experience, will be responsible for expanding the firm’s healthcare practice and social media offerings. She reports to Ben Garrett, OTSP’s executive producer and healthcare practice leader.

Toyota Motor Sales taps McAllister

DETROIT: Toyota Motor Sales USA, the distribution and marketing arm for the company in the US, recently named Curt McAllister Midwest regional manager of corporate communications. He will run the region’s corporate communications office, which has oversight of PR and media relations for Toyota, Lexus, and Scion in 14 states. Previously, McAllister was Midwest product news manager.

Patton joins WE as editor-in-chief of Studio D

SEATTLE: David Patton, former senior editor at The Wall Street Journal, joined Waggener Edstrom as editor-in-chief of WE Studio D, effective March 25. He is managing content for WE clients at the agency’s digital group. Patton also previously worked as both assistant managing editor and editorial director of the Journal’s online edition. He is based in the agency’s Seattle office.

Burson-Marsteller hires Sarver for Austin office

AUSTIN, TX: Burson-Marsteller tapped Jenifer Sarver as a manager of the Austin office, effective February 27. Sarver, former deputy director of public affairs and director of speechwriting for the US Secretary of Commerce, reports to Karen Hughes and Mike Lake. She is a part of the agency’s public affairs team.

National Nuclear Security Administration taps LaVera as director of public affairs

Former ‘LA Times’ innovation director joins Sitrick

LOS ANGELES: Former Los Angeles Times director of innovation, Aaron Curtiss, has joined Sitrick and Company. He will work across the company’s specialty areas - corporate, financial, transactional, and crisis communications - on both digital and traditional media initiatives. Curtiss was with the Times for 20 years and helped lead the paper into the digital space.

DOJ brings in former Yahoo public affairs director

WASHINGTON: The US Department of Justice named Tracy Schmaler as the deputy director of its office of public affairs, effective March 30. In Schmaler had worked with the DOJ in her former position as senior director of global public affairs for Yahoo. She now reports to Matthew Miller, director of the office of public affairs. Yahoo has not filled her position, according to a company spokesperson.

Gutenberg adds former White House communications director

NEW YORK: Gutenberg Communications has added Loretta Ucelli, the former assistant to the president and White House communications director for President Bill Clinton, as a senior adviser. Ucelli will aid the firm as it expands across industries. She is currently an independent strategic communications consultant, but past experience also includes roles as SVP of corporate communications at Pfizer, and an EPA associate administrator for communications, education and public affairs.
