Reid heads WE’s public affairs, corporate comms

SEATTLE: Matt Reid, founder of Waggener Edstrom’s global public affairs practice, has been named EVP of both WE’s global public affairs and global corporate communications practices, though Bud Grebey continues to oversee the latter group. In addition, the Dan Gallagher is now SVP of WE’s research group.

Abelson signs two clients

NEW YORK: Abelson Group has signed Pleasanton, CA-based FunMobility  and Munich, Germany-based MSearchGroove.com as clients. As AOR, Abelson Group will oversee all North American media and analyst relations initiatives for FunMobility. As AOR, the agency will launch MSearchGroove.com and develop influencer outreach and media and analyst relations programs.

CarryOn boosts Schuerman to LA MD

LOS ANGELES: CarryOn Communication has promoted VP and consumer-technology business practice leader JP Schuerman to MD of its Los Angeles headquarters. In this newly created role, Schuerman will lead consumer-tech programs across the firm’s network of offices; in addition, he will focus on expanding CarryOn’s California presence, and serve on the agency’s executive committee. Prior to joining CarryOn in 2002, Schuerman founded and led new media- and tech-focused PR firm Schuerman Communications.

Business Wire taps Mendola for features strategy

NEW YORK: Business Wire has named 15-year newswire industry professional Angela Mendola manager, strategic products. In her new role, Mendola will focus on leveraging the company’s multimedia product offerings and news-distribution platform to create non-traditional editorial features. She reports to Phyllis Dantuono, Business Wire’s co-COO. Prior to joining Business Wire, Mendola served as national product manager for PR Newswire’s feature news service.

Padgitt joins Fender

SCOTTSDALE, AZ: Jason Padgitt has joined Fender Musical Instruments as its first VP of PR and corporate communications. Padgitt will handle media relations, PR, and marketing communications. Previously, Padgitt was VP of Rogers & Cowan, an entertainment-focused PR firm based in Los Angeles.

Cushman/Amberg Communications adds to its portfolio

CHICAGO: Thornburg Mortgage has named Cushman/Amberg Communications AOR. The agency will be charged with leading communications programs designed to increase the mortgage lenders relationships with its correspondents and wholesale lending partners, promote its mortgage products and services aimed at affluent borrowers, and assist the company with its financial communications. Cushman also signed management consulting firm George S. May.

Oxford chooses Roman BrandGroup

INDIANAPOLIS: Oxford BioSignals Medical, the Indiana-based life sciences company, has chosen Roman BrandGroup as its public relations agency. Roman will work to increase awareness of the company and its products, as it recently relocated global operations to the United States. Oxford produces patient safety software to help hospitals better identify patients in a medical crisis.

Young & Laramore launches PR division

INDIANAPOLIS: Young & Laramore has launched a new division called Y&L PR, to handle consumer marketing, public relations, and promotions. Cathy Yingling, most recently a VP at CKPR, will be managing director . Yingling is a 14-year PR veteran, and prior to CKPR, she managed PR for brands at Zeno.
