Ketchum taps Barritt to lead online reputation in food practice

NEW YORK: Ketchum appointed partner Tom Barritt to the newly created position of director of online relationships and reputation for Ketchum’s global food and nutrition practice. Barritt will also serve as associate director of the practice, where he will lead food reputation management and assist with the practice’s business development. He continues to oversee the agency’s communications training network. Most recently Barritt was director of Ketchum’s global issues and crisis management network.

Virilion hires Sierra as senior strategic comms consultant

WASHINGTON, DC: Virilion, the full-service interactive agency, recently hired Suzanne Sierra, as senior strategic communications consultant. In this position, Sierra is tasked with expanding work within the food and beverage industry, in addition to broadening clients’ outreach to youth and Hispanic markets. Previously, Sierra served as director in Anheuser-Busch’s CSR department.

Ogilvy promotes Reihl to NY consumer group director

NEW YORK: Ogilvy PR Worldwide appointed Bill Reihl, EVP and group director of the New York consumer marketing practice. In this position, Reihl’s responsibilities will include oversight of the group and new business development. He will also add to strategic and creative development across practices. Previously, Reihl served as EVP in strategy and planning in the Atlanta office.

Edelman promotes Smith to VP of corporate marketing

NEW YORK: Edelman recently promoted Latraviette Smith to VP of corporate marketing, effective April 1. Smith’s responsibilities include developing social media, thought and creative leadership, and media relations. Smith first joined the agency nine years ago, and she rejoined in 2006. She most recently served as VP for the multicultural practice in the US.

Lisa Lori Comms adds two to client roster

Edelman hires Madden for new position in CSR

CHICAGO: Edelman recently hired Jane Madden as its first SVP of CSR and sustainability in its Chicago office. Madden’s responsibilities include strategic counsel and assistance on CSR stateside and abroad in emerging global markets. Most recently, Madden was president of her own consulting firm, Social Sustainability International. The agency said it saw a need for the role because of clients’ increasing need to connect with stakeholders on environmental, social, and corporate governance practices.

Zapwater Comms adds two to client roster

Toyota Motor Sales taps McAllister

DETROIT: Toyota Motor Sales USA, the distribution and marketing arm for the company in the US, recently named Curt McAllister Midwest regional manager of corporate communications. He will run the region’s corporate communications office, which has oversight of PR and media relations for Toyota, Lexus, and Scion in 14 states. Previously, McAllister was Midwest product news manager.

Friendly’s hires Castle Group as first AOR

Taylor lays off staffers in Q4

NEW YORK: Taylor laid off staffers in Q4 of 2008 “to better prepare [the agency] for the upcoming economic downturn,” said Bryan Harris, COO and managing partner. While Harris declined to provide a reduction percentage or the seniority of laid off staffers, but he did reject the 20% staff reduction reported to PRNewser by a source. Also, Harris noted that “revenue for Q1 is demonstrating an increase over Q4.”
