Blog Council taps Dell’s Pearson

CHICAGO: The Blog Council, a professional group for executives focusing on social media, tapped Bob Pearson, the VP of communities and conversations at Dell, as president, effective April 6. In his new role, Pearson, whose last day at Dell was March 20, will work alongside Blog Council CEO Andy Sernovitz and will help members implement social media, with a focus on ROI, ethics, creating management policies, and utilizing tools and software.

Roto Rooter taps Eisen Marketing for AOR

CINCINNATI, OH: Roto Rooter, the plumbing and drain-cleaning company, recently named Eisen Marketing Group as its AOR, following a competitive review. The agency’s responsibilities will include the promotion of a new green initiative, events, and media outreach. The company’s outgoing agency was Ketchum. It could not immediately be reached for comment.

Moroccan American Center for Policy hires Vision Americas

WASHINGTON: The Moroccan American Center for Policy hired Vision Americas to provide strategic advice about how to improve the relationship between the US and Morocco, according to the US Department of Justice Web site. The firm aims to educate Congress and the president about issues facing Morocco through the use of letters, lectures, speeches, and distributed materials. Roger Noriega, a former assistant secretary of state for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, is the MD of Vision Americas, a video policy site co-created by Gibraltar Associates.

Fonterra North America hires Zeno Group as AOR

CHICAGO: Dairy exporter Fonterra North America has hired the Zeno Group as AOR, following a competitive review. The Zeno Group’s responsibilities will span corporate and consumer-facing communications with an emphasis placed on increasing the company’s brand awareness stateside. Fonterra North America, a fully-owned subsidiary of New Zealand-based Fonterra Co-Operative Group, moved its US headquarters to Chicago, where Zeno has an office, last June.

DKC lays off eight

NEW YORK: DKC laid off eight staffers on January 9, according to an agency spokesman, confirming a January 14 report in the New York Post. The 140-person agency laid off three staffers above AE level and five administrative employees, the source explained.

Ericho Direct opens for business

TAMPA, FL: Firm heads from Ericho Communications and direct-response advertising agency Focus, Eric Yaverbaum and Raul Vazquez, will officially launch Ericho Direct, a firm specializing in direct response initiatives, on January 1, 2009. Ericho Direct will work in-house at the Tampa-based Focus agency. This is the third collaboration for Ericho Communications. The others are Ericho White Plains in New York and Ericho Inside, a PR agency operating in conjunction with DiMassimo Goldstein Advertising Agency, also based in New York.
