Clarendon Group appoints new management

PROVIDENCE: Rhode Island-based Clarendon Group appointed a three-person leadership team to replace the agency’s founder and president, Christine Heenan, who is stepping down following her appointment as the VP of government, community, and public affairs of Harvard. The new partners are: current Clarendon VP of public affairs, Stacy Paterno, who becomes senior partner of the firm; associate director of public affairs, Arianne Corrente Lynch, who becomes partner; and Garry Bliss, former chief of policy for the City of Providence, who joins as managing partner of the group.

The changes take effect October 1. Heenan will remain a “passive investor,” according to a Clarendon spokeswoman.

Visible World taps G.S. Schwartz as AOR

NEW YORK: Visible World, a targeted advertising company, hired G.S. Schwartz & Co. as AOR, effective August 2008, after an RFP. The agency will oversee business-to-business PR, focusing on key trade publications, and building relationships with advertising agencies, media buyers, and cable companies. Sister company Digital Power and Light, a new media and marketing firm, will also be involved with the account.

Hilton’s Homewood Suites hires rbb PR as AOR

MIAMI: Homewood Suites by Hilton selected rbb Public Relations as AOR. The agency, which was selected July 1 after a multiple-round RFP, will provide strategic PR counsel and media relations, build brand awareness among targeted consumer and travel media, and position the brand as an industry leader in the upscale extended-stay lodging segment.

Guardian Exploration hires Virilian Communications

CALGARY, ALBERTA: Guardian Exploration has selected Vancouver-based Virilian Communications for IR services. Virilian will develop and implement a corporate communications plan, provide shareholder relations services, PR services, and manage other tasks. It’s a one-year contract that began August 13. Virilian will be paid $3,500 monthly and receive 250,000 stock options at a price of $0.23 per share.

Socialzr taps DKC as AOR

NEW YORK: Socializr, the free web service for sharing event and party information, has selected DKC as its AOR. Socializr will look to DKC to increase its profile in the consumer marketplace as well as obtain TV exposure for its founder Jonathan Abrams, who was also the founder of Friendster.

Pickens Plan working with North Bridge

DALLAS: North Bridge Communications is working with the Pickens Plan, the wind power and natural gas advocacy project backed by oilman T. Boone Pickens, on public affairs initiatives. The Plan continues to work with Sloane & Company, which PRWeek previously reported had been helping with media outreach.

McClure added to comms role at Industrial Biotechnology Corp.

SARASOTA, FL: Industrial Biotechnology Corporation, a Florida-based company that develops renewable resources that can be used as a petroleum alternative, named Craig McClure VP of IR and PR, a new position at the company. McClure, who began in April, reports to Andrew Badolato, chairman and CEO.

IABC, Toronto, announces board of directors

TORONTO: The Toronto chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators revealed its 2008-2009 board of directors August 26. Board members include: Leslie Hetherington, president; Janet Comeau, immediate past president; Brent Carey, EVP; Anna Relyea, VP, marketing communications; Sarah Twomey, VP, member communications; Christine Andrew, VP, membership; and Natasha Renaud, VP, networking and special events, among others.

Greenable appoints Adam Ritchie Brand Direction AOR

PHILADELPHIA: Greenable, a green building company that offers a range of eco-friendly building materials for residential and commercial projects, formalized an AOR relationship with Boston-based Adam Ritchie Brand Direction. The agency, which finalized the contract in May, will help build awareness for the company, handle marketing, and oversee media relations in the Greater Delaware Valley area.
