WE’s Studio D snags TheMediaIsDying founder

BOSTON: Waggener Edstrom hired Paul Armstrong as senior digital consultant for Studio D in EMEA, effective March 25. Armstrong most recently managed consumer corporate communications for MySpace; he is also known for creating Twitter feed, which he will continue to helm. In his new position, London-based Armstrong will play a key role in shaping online content for existing and new clients.

Patton joins WE as editor-in-chief of Studio D

SEATTLE: David Patton, former senior editor at The Wall Street Journal, joined Waggener Edstrom as editor-in-chief of WE Studio D, effective March 25. He is managing content for WE clients at the agency’s digital group. Patton also previously worked as both assistant managing editor and editorial director of the Journal’s online edition. He is based in the agency’s Seattle office.

Dakota Salts selects WagEd

LAKEWOOD, CO: Dakota Salts, which holds mineral leases across 5,000 acres of North Dakota, has selected Waggener Edstrom for corporate positioning and IR counsel. Dakota Salts is currently looking into extracting minerals from its North Dakota holdings, which could allow it to store compressed air for electricity purposes or natural gas. North Dakota has recently earned a reputation as a leader in green energy, particularly due to its wind farms.

BELLEVUE, WA: Waggener Edstrom released a beta version of a monitoring tool for Twitter conversations, on March 11. The “twendz” evaluates up to 70 Twitter messages, or Tweets, at a time, and compares them to a database of words associated with positive or negative sentiment. The tool then rates the overall tone of the message, according to a company statement.

Almacy joins Edelman

WASHINGTON: David Almacy has joined Edelman as SVP, digital public affairs. Almacy was previously VP, digital strategies at Waggener Edstrom. In 2005, former President George W. Bush named Almacy Internet and e-communications director for the White House. He served in that role for two years prior to joining Waggener Edstrom in 2007.

WE appoints Pribulsky VP of global citizenship

NEW YORK: Waggener Edstrom appointed Jaycee Pribulsky VP of global citizenship in its corporate communications practice, effective the first week of November. Pribulsky, former director of international community relations at Citigroup, will assist in broadening the practice’s corporate responsibility and citizenship efforts and will serve as a strategic counselor to clients. Pribulsky was also previously manager of community affairs at United Technologies.

WE grows environment practice

SEATTLE: Waggener Edstrom has added two new clients to its environment practice: NatureWorks, LLC, a developer of Ingeo bioplastics made entirely from renewable resources; and Ener1 Inc, a developer of advanced lithium-ion batteries to power the next generation of hybrid and electric vehicles.

Cameron joins WE as director of corporate strategy

Microsoft selects Weber Shandwick for global TV

REDMOND, WA: Microsoft selected Weber Shandwick to globally promote all of its TV and video-focused business, edging out retained agencies Waggener Edstrom and Edelman in the bid, PRWeek UK reported. WS’ task includes promoting the products and services under Microsoft’s Connected TV umbrella.
