SANTA FE, NM: Actor Val Kilmer began working with McMahon Squier and Associates in mid-February while he is contemplating a run for governor of New Mexico. Steve McMahon, a media consultant, said the Alexandria, VA-based firm is advising Kilmer on his decision but has not been hired for a campaign.
NEW YORK: The American University of Antigua’s College of Medicine and School of Nursing named Hart-Boillot its AOR, effective February 1. The Waltham, MA-based firm is providing media relations, messaging, and PR.
WASHINGTON: The Embassy of the Republic of Korea hired Scribe Strategies & Advisors to provide strategic communications, PR, and policy education, according to the US Department of Justice Web site. The Washington-based firm started work started on the two-year, $40,000 per month contract on January 1.
CHICAGO: Tropicana is working with two of its agencies, Ogilvy PR Worldwide and DKC, as it responds to media inquiries and reaches out to consumers about the PepsiCo brand’s decision to revert to its original packaging. “There’s been a lot of interest that we’re a company that responds to consumers,” said Jamie Stein, director of communications for Tropicana. She added that the orange juice brand is sending letters to consumers and is responding to information posted on social media sites.
ATLANTA: NewsCertified Exchange hired Rusty Dornin, a former CNN correspondent who left the network in 2008, as SVP. NewsCertified Exchange is an online resource linking journalists and experts. The site’s Expert Data Base is in a testing phase and should soon be operational.
The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore hires Weber Shandwick
BALTIMORE: The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore recently hired Weber Shandwick to provide brand management and marketing services in an effort to raise visibility of the zoo.
NEW YORK: Krupp Communications (K2) hired John Foster as executive director. In addition to helping increase revenue and grow the agency, he will be responsible for managing account teams across all agency clients, developing strategic marketing and branding initiatives, and driving traditional and social media programs. Previously, Foster served in VP roles at Cohn & Wolfe and Bender/Helper Impact, both in Los Angeles.
WASHINGTON: The US Chamber of Commerce Institute for 21st Century Energy named Matt Letourneau its director of communications and media relations, effective February 19. Letourneau, the former Republican communications director for the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, reports to Karen Harbert, president and CEO of the Washington-based organization.
FWV grows Tampa office; adds new accounts
RALEIGH, NC: French/West/Vaughan (FWV) will open a larger Tampa office in March, due to additions to its Florida client base, including Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC), Help for Homeowners, and Security Point Media. The office will also support FWV clients managed from its Raleigh, NC, headquarters.
Widmeyer adds two education clients
WASHINGTON: Widmeyer Communications added two education clients. The agency is providing research and strategic communications for Shepherd University in West Virginia, beginning December 16, and Massachusetts’ College of the Holy Cross, beginning February 25.
