OCC names Hubbard director of public affairs

WASHINGTON: The US Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), which regulates national banks in the US, named Bryan Hubbard as director of public affairs operations. Hubbard previously was special adviser to the deputy comptroller for public affairs.

Distinctive Driving Tours names DRIVEN AOR

Merritt Properties hires Planit

BALTIMORE: Commercial real estate firm Merritt Properties hired Baltimore-based Planit to provide strategic PR and interactive outreach. Planit’s work will include promotion of Meritt’s charitable and “green building” initiatives. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Faucheux leads new Qorvis polling firm

WASHINGTON: Qorvis Communications opened a new polling firm called Clarus Research Group, with Ronald Faucheux as its president. The new firm combines Faucheux’s consulting business, Faucheux Strategies, with Qorvis’ in-house research group. Faucheux is a former editor and publisher of Campaigns & Elections magazine and also a former chief-of-staff to Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA).

Swarovski appoints new comms director

NEW YORK: Swarovski North America hired Livia Marotta as its new director of communications and PR. Marotta will oversee advertising, media, and PR in the consumer goods department. Previously, Marotta headed up the Luxottica Group communications department in the US.

Vocus launches new version of PR software

LANHAM, MD: Vocus launched a new iteration of its PR management software, Vocus Summer ‘08. The newest version offers more than 40 new features, including increased collaboration capabilities, new social media tools to target journalists and tailor pitches, and the ability to customize the analytics dashboard. Existing Vocus customers will be upgraded to the new version by the end of the week.

InterAct Events selects SpeakerBox as AOR

Burson opens Issues & Crisis Group

WASHINGTON: Burson-Marsteller opened an Issues & Crisis Group practice June 24. Josh Gottheimer, Burson EVP worldwide, will chair the practice, which is comprised of former White House, congressional, and political employees. The division will counsel companies and organizations on crisis communications, CSR, litigation, and hostile media environments.
