Lou Hammond & Associates wins new accounts

NEW YORK: Lou Hammond & Associates recently won a number of new accounts in the travel and tourism sector. The agency will now handle PR for the Sonoma County Tourism Bureau, Sonoma County Vinters, and the Sonoma County Winegrape Commission, in Sonoma County, CA, . Additionally,  LH&A was hired by the Paradise Island Tourism Development Association and the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board, both in the Bahamas, and Gurney’s Inn, located in Montauk, NY.

Burson-Marsteller names Chase MD of global HR

NEW YORK: Burson-Marsteller named Michele Chase MD of global human resources, overseeing the firm’s HR function. Chase replaces Celia Berk, who was appointed chief talent officer for Young & Rubicam Brands, Burson’s parent company. Chase had served as MD of US human resources for the firm since 2006. Gillian Wohl Edick, most recently Burson’s US director of HR, was appointed MD of US HR.

California selects DCI for tourism

SACRAMENTO, CA: The California Travel and Tourism Commission (CTTC) selected Development Counsellors International (DCI), a travel specialist PR firm, to promote the state as a tourist destination to consumers in the US and Canada. The work will be handled out of DCI’s New York and Los Angeles offices and will involve traditional media relations as well as new media and other non-traditional consumer related promotions, according to Andrew Levine, president and chief creative officer at DCI. It is a one-year contract, with work set to begin July 1.

Edelman, the incumbent on the account since 2003, had previously told PRWeek it planned to repitch for the business after the agency issued an RFP in January. The agency could not immediately be reached for comment.

Valence Technology selects Allyn & Company as AOR

Two organic brands hire Fresh Ideas Group as AOR

BOULDER, CO: The Fresh Ideas Group (FIG), an agency focused on natural products, added two new clients. Earthbound Farm and Crofters Food Ltd. both hired FIG as AOR. It will work to increase awareness of Earthbound Farms’ environmental leadership and organic farming practices, and will focus on celebrating the company’s 25th anniversary this year. The agency will work to raise awareness of Crofter’s products, and help launch its new Superfruit line of Jams.

ViniPortugal hires Louis Karno & Company

CONCORD, NH: ViniPortugal, a trade association that promotes Portuguese wines around the world, hired Louis Karno & Co. to manage its PR in the US, starting March 1. The effort will include a new Web site launch, social media tactics, and events and meetings with travel, lifestyle, and food journalists. The agency will also work with The Dunn Robbins Group to build awareness and increase sales of Portuguese wines in the US, stressing the value and affordability of Portuguese wines. Dunn Robbins’ efforts will mainly focus on wine media, while Louis Karno will reach out to a broader base of wine-drinking Americans.

J PR adds clients

SAN DIEGO, CA: J Public Relations recently added several accounts to its client roster, including The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas and NIKA Water. The agency will create a national business travel campaign for the hotel and casino, focusing on the expansion of its convention and meetings space. NIKA Water, which donates all of its profits to alleviate sanitation and water needs in impoverished countries, hired the agency to help promote its launch and establish the brand’s reputation.
