Talbots names Paley VP of PR

BALTIMORE, MD: Erickson Retirement Communities tapped Ketchum as its AOR. The consumer health and wellness practice at the agency’s Washington office will provide PR support for Erickson Retirement Communities, a Baltimore, MD-based senior retirement community developer. Work will begin Aug. 1.
IRVINE, CA: Rex Bossert, the former editor-in-chief of The National Law Journal, was hired as director of communications and public affairs for the new School of Law at the University of California, Irvine. Bossert will be part of the founding faculty for the new School of Law, which welcomes its first students in the fall of 2009.
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA: Mining company, Pacific Ridge Exploration Ltd., has tapped G2 Consultants Corporation to serve as its financial PR AOR for a year-long contract. G2 will focus on increasing awareness of the company beyond its present community of investors.
CINCINATTI: Game Day Communications recently added a number of clients to its client roster. The agency will provide PR support for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular when the Rockettes perform in Dayton and Cincinatti in November, and it will also provide media training for the leadership team of the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami, as well as for the top 20 players in the Duramed Tour, a developmental tour for the LPGA.
NEW YORK: Hill & Knowlton hired Wendy Woods-Williams as a SVP for the New York-based agency’s healthcare practice, effective June 30. Woods-Williams, who last worked as a brand steward and strategic lead for Sanofi-Aventis at Euro RSCG, will oversee the oversee the Schering-Plough/Organon account.
HOBOKEN, NJ: Octapharma USA hired Alexandria Township, NJ-based Yankee Public Relations as its AOR, effective July 8. Octapharma is a privately-held plasma product company based in Lachen, Switzerland.
NEW YORK: The Interpublic Group announced July 30 that it has reached an agreement to acquire a strategic interest in independent interactive agency Huge. The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed. Huge, which has 130 employees in offices in New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and London, works with clients including Ikea, JetBlue, NutriSystem, Scholastic, and Warner Music Group. Huge partners David Skokna, Sasha Kirovski, Gene Liebel, and Aaron Shapiro will continue to lead the agency.
MIAMI, FL: Splendia, the international hotel booking Web site, hired Andria Mitsakos Public Relations (AMPR) to serve as its AOR for North and South America, effective July 1. AMPR will focus on the launch of the brand in these markets, provide strategy to connect with new hotel affiliates, employing such tactics as media relations, online marketing, Web 2.0, special events, and promotions with “like-minded” companies. AMPR will also assist with Splendia’s marketing and sales department. One of AMPR’s first projects will be the launch of a new loyalty programs for hoteliers and general consumers, in addition to a travel agent affiliate program.
LOS ANGELES: The Murphy O’Brien firm recently won three AOR accounts, including Is Vodka, the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, and restaurant, Drago Centro. Murphy O’Brien will focus on brand strategy and development, as well as media outreach for Is Vodka. For Drago Centro, the agency will center efforts on PR and new restaurant concept branding, in addition to key media relations targeting national and regional publications for the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai.
