Gen Art enlists 5W for artistic vision

NEW YORK, NY: Gen Art, has signed 5W Public Relations as its AOR. Gen Art is a national fashion, filmmaking, and music incubator. The company, which has a mission to provide greater access to artists in the film, fashion, art, and music worlds, chose 5W a month before the Gen Art Film Festival in New York, it’s most significant event of the year.

5W names new partner

NEW YORK: 5W Public Relations has named EVP and GM Adam Handelsman as a partner. Since 5W acquired Handelsman Public Relations in June 2004, Handelsman has overseen the management and account services at 5W, developed staff, and provided senior level account strategy on many of the firm’s anchor companies.

G.S. Schwartz takes on NY Wine Festival

NEW YORK, NY: G.S. Schwartz & Co. Inc., a mid-sized independent public relations and investor relations agency, announced it will be handling public relations programs for marketing firm Affinity Solutions, and the New York Wine Expo, taking place this weekend. The wine expo is a major wine tasting for the public, restaurants, retailers, and wine trade, hosting more than 600 wines from more than 150 global winemakers and nearly 20,000 people.

Morris & King takes on “The One Percent”

NEW YORK, NY: Documentary director Jamie Johnson, heir to the Johnson & Johnson fortune, has hired The Morris & King Company (MKC) to promote “The One Percent,” Johnson’s Emmy-nominated documentary exploring the disparity of American fortune. MKC plans to not only heighten interest in the film, but also raise awareness of its premise: that one percent of the American population owns 40 percent of the nation’s wealth.

Hillman and Maroon ante up for poker series

BALTIMORE: Sandy Hillman Communications has teamed with Maroon PR, a sports branding specialist, to handle all media outreach for the 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP), one of Las Vegas-based Harrah Entertainment’s flagship events. The joint effort comes just months after Hillman, a 24-year veteran of local firm Trahan Burden Charles TBC, left to form her own agency. TBC had previously represented the franchise.

Tanner wins annual car festival account

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI: Woodward Dream Cruise, Inc., the group responsible for the world’s largest one-day celebration of car culture, has tapped Tanner Friedman as its AOR. Tanner Friedman will take responsibility for the management and media outreach leading up to the Woodward Dream Cruise, an annual festival that draws one million people and more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, and collector vehicles for a 16-mile drive in the suburbs of Detroit.

Ketchum Interactive adds two VPs

NEW YORK: Ketchum Interactive Communications (KIC), the digital arm of the global public relations firm, has announced the addition of two new vice presidents: James Andrews, director of the Atlanta practice, and Scott Kilroy, director of the New York practice. Andrews, a blogger for FastCompany.com, joins KIC from BrandInfluence, a digital marketing and cultural branding agency he founded. Kilroy comes to KIC from Innovation Ads, where he led the development of the company’s lead management software.

Philadelphia’s Sage Communications expands

PHILADELPHIA: Sage Communications Partners, a firm specializing in communications for nonprofits, foundations, and corporate citizenship has hired two new staff members. Heather Newcomb, a former VP of media relations at Commerce Bank, has joined as Sage’s new VP of strategic communications, and Monica Steigerwald, who previously headed development for a charter school, is the firm’s new nonprofit and foundation specialist.

NFL’s Palansky Joins World Series of Poker

LAS VEGAS: The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has hired Seth Palansky as communications director. Palansky will replace Gary Thompson, whom Harrah’s Entertainment, owner of the WSOP, named as its director of corporate communications. Palansky previously oversaw corporate communications for the NFL Network – the league’s owned and operated television channel.
