GYMR wins new clients

WASHINGTON, DC: GYMR Public Relations has been tapped by a number of healthcare-related groups and foundations including The American Academy of Family Physicians, The Markle Foundation, AdvaMed, the Advanced Medical Technology Association, and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK). GYMR will be asked to provide a variety of services for each of these groups including: provide presentation tips and media training for The American Academy of Family Physicians, manage a two-day 600-person conference for The Markle Foundation, serve as AOR for AdvaMed and manage grassroots media outreach for CTFK.

Vidalia Onion Committee selects Sahlman as AOR

TAMPA, FL: The Vidalia Onion Committee has selected Sahlman Williams Public Relations and Marketing as AOR. Sahlman specializes in food-related industries. Its clients include the Georgia Peach Commission. The Vidalia Onion Committee is a nonprofit commodity group representing growers and handlers of Vidalia onions, providing them with marketing and research.

Hallmark networks woo Geisser

NEW YORK: Crown Media Holdings has named Jennifer Geisser VP, corporate communications for its Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. She will report to David Kenin, EVP, programming. Immediately prior to joining the Hallmark Channel, Geisser oversaw business and consumer press, talent relations, and special events at Rainbow Media’s Court TV; she was also instrumental in raising awareness of the network’s public affairs initiatives.

Arbor Custom Homes selects CMD

PORTLAND: Beaverton, OR-based homebuilder Arbor Custom Homes has selected integrated marketing firm CMD to handle PR. The Portland-based agency is expected to develop and launch a series of campaigns in support of the 18-year-old client’s residential-building projects in the Portland metropolitan area, as well as provide market research and community event support for its projects in Hillsboro, Beaverton, Tigard, Wilsonville, and Clackamas, OR.

Gable PR teams with Connect

SAN DIEGO: Connect, a regional economic development nonprofit linking Southern California hi-tech and life-science entrepreneurs and inventors with resources for growth and success, has selected Gable PR to manage its PR and media relations efforts. Based in San Diego, Gable will help draw attention to Connect’s education and networking programs including Venture Round Table, Frontiers in Science and Technology, and Connect with Connect.

Murray named PRSA president and COO

NEW YORK: The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) has named William Murray as its new president and COO. He replaces Catherine Bolton, who stepped down in December 2005. Murray most recently served as a senior fellow at the USC Center for the Digital Future and president of William Murray & Associates, a media and entertainment policy consulting firm. He also served as EVP and and co-COO of the Motion Picture Association (MPA).

Two Chicago firms merge

CHICAGO: Chicago-based PR firms Hodge Communications and Schindler Communications have merged, effective January 1. To be known as Hodge Schindler Integrated Communications, the combined entity will claim billings approaching $1 million, and employ 12 account professionals.

Kekst aids Publicis

NEW YORK: Kekst & Co. is working with Publicis on its proposed acquisition of Boston-based Digitas. Jeffrey Taufield, Kekst & Co. partner, confirmed the agency’s assistance in the acquisition, but declined to comment further.

Brodeur wins tech security co. Global Alerts

PHOENIX: Brodeur has added tech security company Global Alerts to its portfolio. The agency will work on establishing the Global Alerts brand. Global Alerts owns mass notification systems such as AmberAlert.com, Earth911.org, and Pets911.com.
