Martin joins George Washington University staff

WASHINGTON: George Washington University announced on April 14 that Tom Martin joined the adjunct faculty, effective immediately. Martin, most recently the executive-in-residence at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, will teach ethics in corporate and political communications courses during the fall 2009 semester. Martin, formerly the chief communications officer at FedEx and ITT, will also serve as a guest lecturer.

TeleTech selects SSA as AOR

DENVER: TeleTech, a provider of business process outsourcing services, selected SSA Public Relations as its AOR in February. The agency is focusing on raising awareness of the TeleTech brand and its solutions, as well as providing communications assistance in the US and internationally.

‘Boston Globe’ union working with O’Neill and Associates

BOSTON: The Boston Newspaper Guild, the union representing hundreds of Boston Globeemployees, hired O’Neill and Associates for strategic messaging, effective April 10, said Cosmo Macero Jr., VP at the agency. The paper’s parent company, The New York Times Co., has reportedly threatened to shut down the newspaper if tens of millions of dollars in concessions are not made.

The union is stressing the message that “all the members of the newspaper guild [should be] treated fairly,” said Macero, who added that media coverage of the issue has been “good, aggressive, and comprehensive.”

Representatives from the Globe could not immediately be reached for comment. Catherine Mathis, SVP of corporate communications at the Times Co., declined comment.

Fox Broadcasting hires Paez as VP, corporate comms

LOS ANGELES: Fox Broadcasting hired Gaude Lydia Paez as VP of corporate communications. She will serve as a press liaison on issues including ratings, senior executive initiatives, and industry-wide developments, and act as a spokesperson on behalf of senior management. Paez, who most recently served as head of corporate communications for Internet television service Veoh Networks, also served as director of corporate communications at Yahoo and worked at BSMG Worldwide and Burson-Marsteller.

‘Foreign Policy’ names Pierce PR, marketing manager

WASHINGTON: Foreign Policy named Dianna Pierce PR and marketing manager, effective March 30, overseeing the magazine’s communications and marketing efforts. Previously, Pierce worked as a senior producer for ABC News’ Nightline and as an assistant to presidential adviser David Gergen during the Clinton administration. She reports to editor-in-chief Moisés Naím, executive editor Susan Glasser, and publisher Amer Yagub.

Beyond Tribute picks DKC as AOR

NEW YORK: Beyond Tribute, a nonprofit group that raises funding for research, services, and treatment of neurological conditions that affect US veterans, selected DKC as its AOR, effective March 15. The agency is focused on raising awareness of the group’s Memorial Day and Veterans Day efforts, which will leverage participating businesses’ holiday sales that will aid donations.

H&K adds senior management in DC office

WASHINGTON: Hill & Knowlton added four senior hires and one appointment in its Washington office, effective immediately. Terry Neal, former SVP at the Caraway Group, was appointed SVP and director of strategic media in the corporate practice. Christopher Hull, former president of Issue Management Inc., was named SVP and campaign manager in the public affairs practice. Antoinette Forbes, former SVP at Porter Novelli, was named SVP in the healthcare practice. Stacie Paxton, former national press secretary for the Democratic National Committee, was named VP for strategic media in the public affairs practice. Steven Immergut, former SVP in H&K’s healthcare practice in New York, was appointed SVP and director of the Washington healthcare practice.

The agency noted it has hired about a dozen people since January for its Washington office.

Exemplar gains three education clients

FALLS CHURCH, VA: Exemplar Strategic Communications recently signed the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE), the AppleTree Institute for Education, and Stanford University as clients. The agency began work in March as AOR for the AACTE and Stanford University’s Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education. It began helping AppleTree in January for its early childhood education launch in Washington.

Feintuch Communications launches

NEW YORK: Henry Feintuch, former managing partner at KCSA Strategic Communications, launched Feintuch Communications, effective April 6. The agency is focusing on consumer and b-to-b campaigns, specializing in the technology, financial services, healthcare and lifesciences, and advertising and media sectors. Initial clients include 3rd Dimension Technologies, Basex, Bixby Energy Systems, and Gain Capital. The firm also acquired KCSA’s equity interest and membership in ECP Global Communication, which is an international alliance of midsized agencies.

Prior to working at KCSA, Feintuch has worked as director of corporate communications at Scanvest Ring, news assignment editor for WCBS-TV in New York, and reporter and anchorman for several New Jersey radio stations.
