180s names CGPR its AOR

BALTIMORE: 180s, a company that develops performance accessories and apparel, has hired  Marblehead, MA-based CGPR as its AOR. CGPR will support product launches, including ear warmers, gloves, and licensed products with organizations such as the National Football League (NFL) and National Hockey League (NHL).

Washington Nationals promotes VP of comms

WASHINGTON: The Washington Nationals baseball team promoted Chartese Burnett to VP of communications and community relations. Burnett has worked with the team since its inaugural season in Washington in 2005, serving as VP of communications. In addition to her current responsibilities of developing, coordinating, and directing PR and community service activities for the team, Burnett is now tasked with launching and overseeing the Nationals’ minority outreach efforts.

Ski professional hires RLF Communications

GREENSBORO, NC: Ski professional Terrie Anne Bennett hired RLF Communications to handle branding and sponsorship outreach. RLF’s Spotlight practice, which works with public figures and celebrities, will work with Bennett.

St. Louis Rams’ Rick Smith to retire from comms department

ST. LOUIS: Rick Smith, VP of PR for the St. Louis Rams, will retire on April 27, after the NFL Draft. Smith, who has been with the Rams for 14 seasons, will continue as a consultant for the football team as they transition with a yet-to-be-named successor.

Florida PR agency launches sports Web site

TALLAHASSEE, FL: Ron Sachs Communications launched FLSportsFan.com on August 25, a site designed for fans of Florida’s college and professional sports teams. The PR agency has used several PR tactics to draw attention to the new site, including promoting the site’s list of The 10 Best All-Time Florida College Football Teams, and a contest where fans can win tickets to the 2009 BCS Championship Game at Dolphins Stadium.

Taste of Tennis hires DKC as AOR for event

NEW YORK: BNP Paribas Taste of Tennis, the pre-US Open charity event, appointed DKC as the AOR, for the fifth consecutive year. Citing strong media coverage the event received in the past as a reason for the continued relationship, Taste of Tennis will work with DKC to bring together tennis stars like Andy Roddick and Jelena Jankovic and chefs from restaurants such as Blue Fin and Tavern on the Green. Proceeds from the event, which will take place on August 21, will benefit the Food Back for New York City.
