TORONTO: GCI Canada has named Leslie Taschner as VP and practice leader for technology. Taschner most recently worked at Hill & Knowlton where she led the technology communication practice. Her experience also includes working in both Canada and the United States within the B2B and Enterprise technology sectors.
H&K Canada hires former chief of staff
OTTAWA: Hill & Knowlton appointed Ian Brodie senior counselor in its public affairs group in Ottawa. He is the former chief-of-staff to Canada’s Prime Minister, Stephen Harper. Brodie will provide senior counsel in government relations to the agency’s clients across Canada.
Burns promoted to head of DC tech at HK
WASHINGTON, DC: Duncan Burns has been promoted to head the technology department for Hill & Knowlton’s DC office. In the newly-created position, Burns will manage a team of seven and work with a range of clients, including Qualcomm and eBay. He was previously an SVP in the group.
RF hires Ross as EVP, MD of DC office
WASHINGTON: Ruder Finn hired Jessica Berk Ross as EVP and MD of its DC office, effective October 20. Ross has owned her own consulting firm since 2001 and previously served as Hill & Knowlton’s public affairs practice director. Ross replaces Neil Dhillon, who left RF in September to become MD of MS&L’s DC office and head of the agency’s national public affairs practice.
H&K launches global corporate response group
NEW YORK: Hill & Knowlton has launched a global corporate response group as a result of the ongoing troubles on Wall Street. The global, multi-specialist group will counsel CEOs and communications directors on a variety of issues including restructuring and asset disposal, employee motivation, and building reputation. The group will draw from the firm’s specialists in the areas of analyst relations, government affairs, crisis communications, and other groups. The group will have regional hubs in London, New York, and Hong Kong, that report directly to H&K chairman and CEO Paul Taaffe.
WASHINGTON, DC: Maureen Davenport, Hill & Knowlton’s US tech practice lead, is leaving the agency after nine years. Davenport, who was appointed director of the practice in April, is taking a post as head of communications for the National Association of Manufacturers. Joshua Reynolds, H&K’s global technology practice director, will take over as interim US tech practice lead.
Patrick joins Pew
WASHINGTON: The Pew Charitable Trusts hired Kipling T. Patrick as senior officer for communications in mid-May, though it released the news only now. Patrick previously was VP of public affairs at Ketchum and account supervisor at Hill & Knowlton.
H&K hires Woods-Williams for healthcare practice
NEW YORK: Hill & Knowlton hired Wendy Woods-Williams as a SVP for the New York-based agency’s healthcare practice, effective June 30. Woods-Williams, who last worked as a brand steward and strategic lead for Sanofi-Aventis at Euro RSCG, will oversee the oversee the Schering-Plough/Organon account.
Douma joins H&K
TORONTO: Hill & Knowlton hired Collin Douma to join its digital team in Toronto. Prior to joining H&K, Douma was a blogger, and social media strategist and consultant.
H&K hired Kehs for public affairs role
WASHINGTON: Hill & Knowlton appointed Michael Kehs as US head of public affairs and GM of its Washington, DC, office, effective July 14. Prior to joining H&K, Kehs was partner and director of Porter Novelli’s public affairs practice in Washington. He also previously worked for 12 years in various roles at Burson-Marsteller.
