Canadian PR pro Louis Cahill dies at 94

ST. CATHERINE, ONTARIO: Canadian PR legend Louis Joseph Cahill, died November 12, after more than 60 years in the industry. He was 94. Cahill started one of the first Canadian PR firms, Ontario Editorial Bureau (now known as OEB Enterprise) and was one of the founders of the Worldcom Group.

Leon’s taps Strategic Objectives as AOR

TORONTO: Leon’s Furniture, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2009, named Strategic Objectives as its AOR. The agency will assist with media relations, charitable activities like a staff volunteer program, a CEO tour, events, and the development of a new Canadian landmark, all the while working to connect Leon’s with those who contribute to its success.

New appointments at Quebecor Media

MONTREAL: Quebecor Media hired Isabelle Dessureault as VP of public affairs and promoted J. Serge Sasseville to VP of corporate and institutional affairs. Dessureault, who was previously VP of Videotron corporate affairs and the VOX television channel, will handle internal and external communications, and institutional and regulatory affairs. Sasseville, who was VP of corporate affairs, entertainment, and multimedia of Quebecor Media, will now oversee Quebecor Media’s Regulatory Affairs Department and Institutional Affairs Department, in addition to his current duties.

Flexible Solutions selects The Investor Relations Company

CHICAGO: British Columbia-based Flexible Solutions International (FSI), a producer of biodegradable nanotechnology-based products for water treatment, industrial, and other use, has selected The Investor Relations Company for a program of investor meetings. According to the statement announcing the firm’s selection, FSI CEO Dan O’Brien says the company is well-positioned despite the market turmoil and wants to continue to tell its story to investors.

Visa Canada partners with NHL and NHLPA

TORONTO: Visa Canada is now an official partner of the NHL and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) in Canada, including serving as the official payment card of the NHL and NHLPA. The partnership runs through June 30, 2011, and plans for hockey-themed campaigns from Visa are already underway.

New Sage Energy Corp taps Agoracom for AOR

TORONTO: New Sage Energy Corp, a Canadian oil and gas company, chose Agoracom Investor Relations as its agency of record for online outreach. The agency will focus on new media initiatives, such as an online social network for shareholders, promotion to Web sites key to the investment industry, and investor relations services.

Mart Resources hires Renmark for IR

CALGARY, ALBERTA: Mart Resources, an international petroleum company, has retained Renmark Financial Communications for IR services as part of a one-year contract, it said August 19. The firm, which is based in Montreal, Quebec, specializes in providing IR services to shareholders and the retain financial community.

Environics grows tech staff

Conair hires Canadian AOR of consumer beauty

TORONTO: Conair Consumer Products recently tapped Thornley Fallis Communications to serve as its PR AOR for consumer beauty products in Canada. Thornley Fallis will assist in promoting Conair’s new steam straightener, in addition to other products.

Canadian Film and TV Production Association hires director of comms

OTTAWA: The Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA) hired Anne Trueman as director of communications and media, effective August 11. In her new role, Trueman will handle day-to-day media relations and work to bring a higher profile to Canadian producers, she told PRWeek. Trueman has experience in both journalism and communications, including roles as managing editor of the Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC), director of communications to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and national media relations manager for Canadian Blood Services.
